Flower
Hill Mall has won her over.
At first I was convinced about the impacts of the larger 2005
project, but I now believe
that the owners have listened to community concerns and made significant
modifications that we can all live with. The project is a blending of
the communities needs and the developers needs and fits the character
of the existing center and the community.
I am excited about the plans for a Whole Foods in our community
because we do not currently have a natural foods gourmet grocery in the
area and I am tired of driving to La Jolla to patronize Whole Foods. The
location at Flower Hill will be convenient and require less travel time
for me and my neighbors to shop. Although a patron of the theaters at
Flower Hill, I am not alarmed by their demise because there is still a
theater in the community at the Del Mar Highlands that is close by and
easy to access.

Plans for Flower Hill Promenade
spot on!
I wanted to take a few minutes to add my two cents to the discussion
surrounding the plans for the Flower Hill Promenade. As someone who frequents
the businesses there often, I like the new plans for the area and it appears
to me that the owners of the Promenade have been sensitive to the concerns
of the neighbors. There was a concern voiced by some neighbors when the
first plan was for a 250,000-square-foot office structure on top of a
parking garage. All that has changed and it has been scaled back to 164,000
square feet.
Any time someone proposes growth and
change, there will be voicing of dissent. In this particular case, the
good of the community should outweigh a few loud voices. In my opinion,
the plans for the Flower Hill Promenade are spot on and should be instituted
as soon as possible.

Comments from Our Open House;
“It looks like a beautiful project. I am so pleased for the new
development. The community will benefit tremendously.”
“I believe project is great for tenants of Flower Hill shopping
center and all neighbors.”
“Like the design.”
“I strongly favor the proposed project, but there is a tiny vocal
minority of neighbors who opposed commercial development of any kind.
We welcome Whole Foods as there is no comparable market between La Jolla
and Orange County.”
“The loss of the movie theater will not be missed; it offers nothing
unique. You have done a very good job of inviting community opinion, and
we are eager to see this project completed ASAP.”
“Need another restaurant. I like Tony Roma or Family Style chain
(2) Traffic should be OK.“
“The overall plan is excellent for the location. Bringing in Whole
Foods will increase traffic into our mall. It’s 2008 and its time
to update the mall. We need to be competitive with other new strip centers.
Keep up the good work!!
“Love Whole Foods! ! Sorry to see the Ultra Star go.”
“Glad to see Whole Foods coming! Keep upgrading the tenants.”
“Glad to know filling station remains. Glad to know San Andres
will not be four lanes.”
“Bringing a chain store such as Whole Foods will certainly bring
more business into this mall. Also, by changing the entrance to Taste
of Thai it will create an environment for this restaurant as part of this
mall”
“Glad for the community meeting and that the City of San Diego
is involved in the process.”
“Looks good to me. I hope it moves ahead as planned.”
“Best thing to happen at Flower Hill.”
