Racing season runs from mid-July through early September. Post time is 2:00 pm except on Fridays, when post time is 4:00 pm. Nine races are run each afternoon; post-race concerts and other special events are also a major attraction here.

The history of the racetrack at Del Mar extends back to 1933, when Bing Crosby established the Del Mar Turf Club. It was instantly popular with many of Hollywood's most famous names, including Desi Arnaz, Lucille Ball, Bob Hope, and Betty Grable. Though the old-time glamor days have passed, the racetrack remains a popular summer gathering spot.
