Press Releases LATEST TENANT DEVELOPMENTS! Flower Hill Announces Plan to Bring Whole Foods Market to the Promenade Del Mar, California (December 14, 2007) - Whole Foods Market (NASDAQ: WFMI), the world's leading natural and organic foods supermarket and the nation's first certified organic grocer, has announced plans to open a store in the Flower Hill Promenade Shopping Center located at the I-5 Freeway and Via De La Valle in Del Mar, California. The new 30,000 square foot Whole Foods Market will become the anchor tenant in the expanded mixed-use lifestyle center. Construction is planned to begin in Spring of 2009 with comlpetion mid-2010. Over its nearly 27 year history, Whole Foods Market has helped revolutionize the way Americans eat and think about food, both with its long-standing commitment to its stringent quality standards, and by championing the difference natural and organic products can make in the quality of one's life. "We want our shoppers to celebrate the joys of eating and living well. We hope Whole Foods Market will continue to prompt change in the way people think about and shop for food," said John Mackey, Whole Foods Market CEO and co-founder. Whole Foods Market is passionate about great tasting food and the pleasure of sharing it with others and the new store in Del Mar will be a testament to that. "The healthy and active lifestyle that is embraced by so many residents of Del Mar is a perfect compliment to the quality standards that Whole Foods Market is committed to. We are so happy to have found a wonderful location in Del Mar to best serve the needs of the community. Look for many innovative features at this new location," stated Marci Frumkin, Marketing Director, Southern Pacific Region, Whole Foods Market. Developed by La Jolla based Protea Properties and to be designed by SGPA Architecture and Planning, the new addition will be a mixed-use development with added retail and boutique office space complementing the existing Flower Hill Promenade Shopping Center which has been a cornerstone in the community for over 30 years. "We are delighted to have an opportunity to bring a full-service natural grocery store to the community and believe that Whole Foods Market will be an ideal fit," said Protea Property President, Jeffrey Essakow.
Flower Hill Promenade will say Goodbye to UltraStar Cinemas. Flower Hill Promenade has announced that its lease with UltraStar Cinemas will not be renewed as the mall undergoes its planned renovation starting in 2009. "UltraStar Cinemas has had a long and wonderful history at Flower Hill." said Rose Jabin, property manager. "But in balancing all of the factors and needs in the center's renovation, we determined that a theater is not the best use to continue on that site." Jabin said a primary reason for not renewing the theater lease and incorporating it into the renovation plan is that theaters generate significantly more traffic and require more parking than most other retail uses. "We have consistently heard from community members that their greatest concern about our expansion is the amount of traffic it might generate," Jabin said. "As we have reworked our plans from original concepts, we have taken a number of steps to reduce traffic and parking impacts. The result will be a refreshed Promenade that the community will embrace and be proud of." UltraStar Theaters will remain open until the start of construction, scheduled for some time in 2009.
